About Me

After completing a BA in Publishing, I worked for a number of years at Chambers Harrap
Publishers in Edinburgh. Starting as a Production Assistant, I became Prepress Controller,
then Senior Prepress Controller, then Prepress Manager. When the XML data origination
came in-house, we set up an in-house Prepress department bringing the XML into 3B2
and covers and marketing material into Quark Xpress. As the manager of this department
I expanded its scope to work on design, typesetting and picture research for other companies
within the Hachette Group all over the world.

In 2005 I set up my own company offering a variety of creative publishing services.  I have worked for companies including Hodder Education, Harper Collins, Penguin Books, Oxford University Press, Bloomsbury, Larousse, Canongate, Birlinn, Chambers Harrap, Leckie and Leckie, and the Royal Institute of Architects on a wide range of projects. I am happy to consider all projects, large or small!

I have experience in working on teaching resources, both online and print, for use in the classroom. I am always happy to take on the design, setting and picture research for these types of projects.

I have worked directly with authors, including Alasdair Gray on his autobiography "A Life In Pictures" for Canongate. I also have experience working with many editors, translators, copy editors and lexicographers and can recommend a number of high-quality independent publishing professionals.

When working on larger reference projects, I make use of a pool of keyers who work with me in either InDesign or Arbortext (3B2) to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met. They are happy to work with your native editorial packages if preferred to ensure you have up-to-date in-house data.

I work from my garden office in the Scottish Borders with my canine
and feline assistants.
